The Story
Heuer almost needs no introduction, as it still exists as the present Tag Heuer. It was almost waylaid along with a lot of Swiss brands during the quartz crisis but was saved when it decided to join the quartz bandwagon and it created a very appealing diver’s watch. The first generation is coded as the 844 and was made in France. This is the second generation with manufacturing already reverting to Switzerland, the 980.006. This example has developed the most appealing kind of original lume patina with a mottled coffee look, perhaps because it led a hard life in the tropics and seems to have had some moisture ingress at one point in its life. It comes with a vintage brown Tropic style strap.

Honesties
This quartz workhorse is running well. Crystal has been upgraded to Sapphire and bezel insert is an excellently reproduced replacement. Both original mineral crystal and well-worn insert will be included in the sale. As indicated above the dial has some moisture marks that we chose not to touch and the quartz movement has traces of oxidation. Case has obvious usage scratches and seems to be unpolished.
